The Wrath of the Redhead
The silence was almost deadly at work yesterday, and it had nothing to do with beans or cabbage. There are some things I just can’t tolerate, as my co-workers found out.
I have a great rapport with my bosses and co-workers. I have a reputation for being easy-going and calm in the face of turmoil and danger. People shout, insult, threaten. I stay level-headed, don’t raise my voice unless necessary, etc… I’ve always believed you can get more flies with honey than vinegar, and letting people rant and bitch often leaves them feeling better. It also gives me a little sadistic amusement.
Yesterday I got so goddamned mad it (almost) felt better than sex afterward… Read the rest of this entry »

Ever had one of those weekends where nothing gets done? You start with grand plans, and one by one they get ignored or delayed. While I’ve never been one to slack when it comes to procrastination, I outdid myself this weekend.
It started off with a visit to my barber. I didn’t need a haircut, but I do enjoy the company of a woman from time to time. While lusting after a lesbian is an exercise in futility, we have a great time hanging out together, so when I called Clairissa to chat, she invited me over to kill an hour or two.
Halfway there, I get a text message: “Something came up, had to leave for a while. I’ll be back, but I’ll be late. Sorry…” I continued on to the shop, where I was met by a big dog and another of the shop gals. We talked for a bit, then she took the dog for a walk. The fur-covered futon felt sooo good… I stretched out, and the next thing I know I’m being licked by Marley, the big white dog. I’d slept for about an hour.
I kicked around for a few more minutes, but it was time to go. I almost nodded off on the bus ride downtown. I managed to get through my work-related meeting and headed for home. I curled up for a nap, and the next thing I knew it was Saturday morning.
Short story shorter, I slept most of Saturday away. I’d start watching a football game, or the league championships leading to the World Series, but I’d keep nodding out. WTF?
Sunday was much the same. Got up, got dressed, had breakfast and went back to bed.
Finally, about 6 AM today, I woke up feeling refreshed. To be safe, I slept another three hours. I probably won’t sleep for the rest of the week.
Just another thrill-a-minute weekend. Lord help us all if I end up having fun one of these weekends.
Blah.
Next Time Pay Attention!
There’s an old saying: The customer is always right. To which I have a one compound word response:
BULLSHIT!
If the customer were always right, there would be no need for me. Having spent a very long time in retail and customer service, I know of that which I speaketh. Read the rest of this entry »
The 47-Year-Old Hippie
I’m having one of those days. A sign of impending old age? Things are falling off, or out. I’m forgetting stuff. I have fits of ambition, followed by attacks of meh.
The last few weekends have seemed like the sentence I have to serve after working all week. It starts off fun, but as it wears on I wish I were back at work so I’d have something purposeful to do.
I’ve decided this weekend won’t be like that… Read the rest of this entry »
I’ll Get There When I Get There
Sometimes the grandest of intentions are for naught. Yesterday I wanted to get a jump-start on the day, so I left for work early. Today? Why bother…
I’d left half an hour early, so I’d have time to grab a cup of coffee, get the work-dirt from Whitney, and show up a few minutes ahead of schedule for my shift. I’ve had an ongoing arrangement with the bosses; I show up a few minutes early, and I can leave 5-10 minutes before official end of shift so I can make it across downtown to catch my bus. Otherwise? It’s an extra hour tacked onto my commute. I spend enough time commuting without piling on. It works great for the afternoon shift. They are happy to see me, they can do their close-out chores without rush, everyone’s happy.
The longtime graveyard guy either forgot, or didn’t care. When it was time for his shift to start, he was nowhere to be seen. Read the rest of this entry »
