A Penny for My Thoughts

May 30, 2010 at 12:10 pm (The Easy Chair)

I know at least one person who had a pretty good day 49 years ago… Me! Yes, it’s that yearly celebration, where everyone I love goes camping and I celebrate the birthday in typical fashion: I go to work.

It’s okay. I’m grateful to have a low-paying job that I truly enjoy, instead of a nose-to-the-grindstone situation where I make a ton of money but never have time to spend it. He who has the most toys may win, but I’m just playing for fun.

I’ve lost a lot of people I’ve loved and/or admired over the last year. As fifty approaches, I’ve been taking steps to make sure I’ll be around in another decade or three. (Fingers crossed, legs flexible…) I’m doing the stuff I’m supposed to do, and if fate intervenes? Well, I don’t want to regret a minute along the way.

Here’s a big hug/knuckle bump/ big sloppy kiss to my friends and loved ones. (You may pick your PDA based upon appropriateness. Sorry guys, the sloppy kiss option is off the table for you.) Thank you for being there for me. Thank you for reading, even though it only encourages me.

Thank you for making this gig called life worth every second.
